The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and enforcing all health and safety procedures for our company’s work on various construction projects including office and shop safety. This role involves ensuring strict adherence to all federal, state, and local safety regulations, with a particular focus on OSHA standards. The Safety Manager will work closely with our field teams and the general contractor’s safety personnel to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, promoting a strong, proactive safety culture.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo be successful in this role the following essential duties must be performed:
- Policy and Program Development: Create, review, and update Giroux’s safety Program to include PPE, JSSP, JHA’s, emergency response plans, and other policy updates needed.
- Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards (e.g., fall risks, electrical issues, material handling problems) and implement corrective actions immediately.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA standards) and owner contractual requirements.
- Training and
Education:
Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections in conjunction with departmental superintendents to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments. - Incident Management: Lead thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near‑misses to determine root causes, develop preventative measures, manage documentation, and coordinate with workers’ compensation claims.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and current records of all safety activities, including inspection logs, training attendance, and incident reports, to ensure compliance and track performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, DART rates). Maintain all records related to OSHA/CAL‑OSHA.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for safety‑related inquiries, interacting with employees, management, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies (like OSHA).
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure personnel are prepared for potential incidents.
- Leads the development and proper documentation of safety inspection activities, reports and correspondence for rigging, tailgate topics, safety meetings, etc.
- Safety Equipment: Provide equipment and vendor suggestions to departmental superintendents to ensure continuity for company wide safety equipment purchases.
- Fleet Management: Maintain company wide fleet vehicle maintenance plan to include operational, administrative, acquisition and procurement via purchases, and leases that match company needs and goals.

Manage and maintain Giroux’s fleet driver safety policy including MVR checks, driver’s training, and fuel card policy.

- 5 to 7+ years of full‑time experience in construction safety management, preferably working for a general contractor or subcontractor on commercial projects.
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Current Certification required.
- Professional safety certifications such as Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or OSHA 500 Certification are preferred or working towards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
- Interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Critical thinking, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Developing direct reports and others.
- Building client relationships to build trust and influence others internally and externally.
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with company core values.
