Overview

Cannon Building, a leading general contractor specializing in life science, healthcare, commercial/institutional, and industrial sectors, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee and drive the successful delivery of healthcare construction projects in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. As a Project Manager, your primary focus will be managing complex healthcare construction projects to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

This role reports to the Director of Healthcare Construction and supports our standards of project execution and client satisfaction in the healthcare sector.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction project management within the healthcare sector, with a demonstrated ability to lead project teams, manage client relationships, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of the construction project to ensure client satisfaction. This includes managing project costs, schedule, safety, and quality while providing leadership in project completion. The Project Manager will collaborate with Superintendents and provide training and mentoring for Project Engineers and other project team members.

Responsibilities
  • Project Planning and Coordination:
    • Plan, coordinate, and manage project submittals and schedules to align with overall construction timelines.
    • Prepare, monitor, and update the project schedule, coordinate with the Superintendents’ schedules, document delays, and establish material delivery plans.
  • Participate in end-of-month financial reviews, assess the budget, and report on project completion status.
  • Verify owner/client and subcontractor billings and manage accounts receivable.
  • Leadership and Communication:
    • Provide leadership through effective communication with owners/clients, architects, consultants, and the project team; foster teamwork among all stakeholders.
    • Organize and lead project meetings, prepare minutes, and ensure obligations are understood and fulfilled.
  • Contract and Compliance Management:
    • Ensure compliance with general conditions and contract requirements, monitor conformance and execution of contract documents.
    • Negotiate subcontract and purchase order terms, oversee subcontract execution, and manage subcontractor claims.
  • Project Documentation and Systems:
    • Use Procore to manage project documentation and costs; oversee RFIs, submittals, inspections, safety reports, change orders, and related documents.
  • Quality and Safety Assurance:
    • Participate in Operations and Safety meetings, promoting and enforcing jobsite safety.
    • Manage project closeout procedures, including punch lists, warranties, and operations manuals.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Travel may be required; the role is based in the San Diego region with travel to Orange, Los Angeles, or San Diego counties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant project management experience.
  • Design-Build

    Experience:

    Extensive design-build project experience. DBIA certification is a plus. Please submit a project sheet with your resume to showcase design-build experience.
  • OSHPD/HCAI

    Experience:

    Experience with OSHPD or HCAI projects, understanding healthcare construction requirements.
  • Track Record: Proven ability to manage technically complex projects ranging from $500k to $20M through all lifecycle phases, delivering on time and within budget.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil or mechanical preferred), construction management, or a related field.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Excellent written and verbal communication, strong presentation and negotiation abilities.
  • Technical and Software Proficiency: Knowledge of reinforced concrete, wood framing, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software (Procore or similar), scheduling software (MS Project or similar), PDF management (Bluebeam), and BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or similar).
