The Regional Deputy Director will assist in leading the Member Strength Department and the Region in meeting the goals that align with the vision and mission of SEIU
2015. Must show skill in all core competencies expected of Local 2015 staff. The Deputy Director reports to the Regional Director.
- Lead with vision and purpose to inspire staff and members to engage in and lead on key union priorities, including politics, growth and membership.
- Foster equity and inclusion, including cultural competence to work with diverse staff and communities, commitment to building an anti‑racist organization.
- Ignite motivation to achieve results, including coach and model, practice active listening, self‑reflection, give and receive authentic feedback, and hold oneself and one’s team accountable to commitments and outcomes.
- Build and lead great teams, including managing goals, roles, processes and relationships, relationship building, and working collaboratively across departments.
- Develop self and others using collective ownership and consistent evaluation and self‑reflection, and accountability to outcomes.
- Organize their own work and the work of their team, including creating clear roles and responsibilities, clear communication, organizing their time and supporting staff to do the same, and demonstrating self‑motivation.
- Exhibit the ability to demonstrate SEIU Local 2015 core values.
- Demonstrated competency in organizing and representational work including a basic knowledge of related labor laws and regulations related to the organizing and representation of workers (e.g., NLRA, FLSA, PERA).
- Demonstrated ability to embrace and foster innovation into their work and within their teams that helps improve efficiencies and execute towards organizational goals.
- Highly competent in using Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Also demonstrates the willingness to harness the power of social media to help execute the work of the organization.
- 5+ years of experience in union or community organizing and representation.
- 2+ years of experience in leading large staff teams across multiple geographies or program areas.
- Demonstrated leadership and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and to work independently with elected leaders in complex political and local union situations.
- Demonstrates high level of experience in all elements of creating and executing field/organizing programs and campaigns, including developing & leading teams, staff supervision, planning, evaluation, budgeting, and accountability to outcomes.
- Demonstrates high level experience in leading bargaining and/or new worker organizing campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and work under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to meet goals around membership, CAF, leader development, and building worker organization.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate data on program or campaign area, and use data to guide decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the long‑term care industry and labor laws.
- Effective oral and written communication including public presentations.
- Informal and formal negotiating.
- Effective facilitation.
- Skilled at managing and meeting many and varying deadlines.
