Job DescriptionThe Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) is seeking an experienced, innovative individual to serve as the Department's Chief Executive Officer. This individual will be responsible for comprehensive executive oversight and day-to-day management of existing programs, as well as planning, coordination, and implementation of new programs.
Under the direction of the General Manager, who reports to the Mayor's Office, the Executive Officer is responsible for comprehensive executive oversight and day-to-day management of existing programs as well as implementation of new programs. The responsibilities include oversight of four other Assistant General Managers who oversee the following Bureaus:
Administration, Housing Development, Regulatory Compliance and Code, and Homelessness Oversight. The Executive Officer also oversees two Directors of Housing: one responsible for carrying out functions for the Strategic Planning and Policy Division, and another overseeing the Accessible Housing Program.
The Executive Officer position requires a high level of knowledge and expertise in housing issues and policies that affect the Housing Development, Accessible Housing, Homelessness, and Code Enforcement branches, and an understanding of administrative functions related to personnel, finance & accounting, and systems maintenance & development. In addition, the Executive Officer:
- Develops, approves, and ensures implementation of standard operating procedures for the Department and makes recommendations to the General Manager in the development of departmental policy
- Recommends the establishment or change of department policies
- Reviews and approves recommendations to select, promote, reassign, or discipline employees
- May review the preparation and administration of the Department's annual budget
- Directs the handling of requests for statistical & analytical reports on housing production & preservation issues from elected officials, the press, & the interested public, and may represent the Department before City Council, commissions, & the public
- May act on behalf of the Department's General Manager as needed
- Applies sound management principles & techniques in building & maintaining an effective workforce
The current salary range for the Assistant General Manager (Executive Officer) is $176,227 to $257,659 per year, plus an Executive Officer bonus of 11%.
