JOB SUMMARY

The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean & Chief Operations Officer (ADCOO). This senior leadership role serves as the Dean’s designee overseeing all professional services within the school, including fiscal management, human resources, information technology, facilities, and operational planning. Working collaboratively with Associate Deans, Department Heads, and staff, the ADCOO ensures that these services are efficient, effective, and aligned with the mission and strategic goals of the Neag School and the University.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In consultation with the Dean, develops, evaluates, interprets, and enforces university and Neag School policies, procedures, guidelines, and strategies.
  • Oversees business and fiscal services, including budgeting, financial analysis, audits, and centralization of financial operations for all academic departments, centers, post award for grants, and outreach programs within the School.
  • Leads human resources function on behalf of the Neag School of Education, including managing staffing processes, liaising with Labor Relations and Human Resources, coordinating performance evaluations, and ensuring compliance.
  • Provides direction over the School’s information technology services, including strategic planning, technology upgrades, and data management, in consultation and collaboration with centralized ITS as needed.
  • Oversees facilities and space management across Neag School buildings and assigned spaces.
  • Supervises key professional staff, including the Finance Director for Business & Grant Services and the Neag Information Technology Director.
  • Represents the Neag School of Education on university committees and leadership forums.
  • Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in business administration, human resources, public administration, higher education administration, or related field.
  • 7?10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration or a similar complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiscal oversight, budget development, and financial analysis.
  • Supervisory experience managing professional staff and cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant federal, state, and university regulations governing HR, finance, and business operations.
  • Demonstrated communication, problem‑solving, and policy interpretation skills.
  • Experience with human resource management, labor relations, staff evaluations, and organizational development.
  • Experience in strategic planning, organizational process improvement, and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Senior‑level administrative leadership experience in higher education.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with IT planning, systems implementation, and technology services support.
  • Experience with RCM Budget Models.
  • Experience managing facilities operations, space planning, or capital improvement planning.
  • APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full‑time, permanent, 12‑month, management‑exempt position with an anticipated start date in May 2026. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
