SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Eyewear Material Planner is responsible for planning, ordering, tracking, and coordinating raw materials and components required to support eyewear development and production. This role works closely with Development, Purchasing, Production, and other cross-functional teams to ensure materials are accurately planned and available according to established production and development timelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, order, and track raw materials and components required for eyewear frame orders, including plastic/acetate, lenses, hinges, screws, and other subcomponents.
  • Review material requirements and inventory positions for samples, first production orders, and reorders.
  • Prepare material requirements for Purchasing and support the purchase order process.
  • Monitor material orders and follow up with Purchasing and suppliers to ensure materials arrive on time and meet required specifications and dates.
  • Work closely with the Development team on material and component selections for new eyewear styles and collections.
  • Review material requirements throughout the product development process and ensure they align with development and production schedules.
  • Develop a working knowledge of eyewear construction, including the materials and components required to manufacture frames.
  • Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accuracy and completeness and flag incorrect, missing, or inconsistent material requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting material and component issues and work cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies before they impact production.
  • Monitor material lead times and identify potential shortages, delays, and supply risks.
  • Follow development calendars and key production milestones to ensure materials are ordered within required lead times.
  • Maintain accurate material planning, order, and inventory information within applicable systems and tracking tools.
  • Communicate material availability, order status, delays, and potential risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement of material planning and tracking processes.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1–3 years of experience in material planning, production planning, purchasing coordination, product development, or a related field.
  • Experience in eyewear, accessories, apparel, footwear, jewelry, or another physical-product manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Working knowledge of BOMs, inventory, purchase orders, material lead times, and production schedules.
  • Proficiency with Excel and/or Google Sheets; experience with ERP, MRP, or product lifecycle management systems is a plus.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to identify potential material issues early, prioritize competing deadlines, and proactively communicate risks.
  • Ability and willingness to develop a strong understanding of eyewear construction and manufacturing processes.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
