CNC Machinist - Aerospace Additive Manufacturing The Opportunity

We're looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join an advanced aerospace additive manufacturing team. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of additive and subtractive manufacturing
, producing high-performance metal components for demanding aerospace applications.

• Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines
• Machine and finish 3D-printed metal components
• Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, models and technical drawings
• Develop, program and optimise CNC machining processes
• Define tooling strategies, cutting parameters and toolpaths
• Work with complex geometries and difficult-to-machine materials
• Use CAD/CAM software to program machines and optimise toolpaths
• Inspect machined and printed parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges and CMMs
• Apply GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy
• Perform secondary processes including surface finishing and EDM when required
• Investigate machining defects including chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion and tolerance drift
• Create and maintain machining process documentation, setup instructions and control plans
• Maintain and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures and machines
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
• Maintain strict safety and aerospace quality standards

The role offers exposure to a broad range of advanced machining technologies, including:

• 5-axis machining and U-axis configurations
• Complex multi-axis toolpaths
• Vertical turning lathes
• Multi-turret and B-axis machining
• Sinker EDM
• CNC bandsaw and waterjet cutting
• Tool presetting and tool life management
• Advanced tooling and work holding systems

• Proficiency in CNC programming and operation of CNC lathes and milling machines
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation
• Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360 or Solid Works
• Hands-on experience with precision measurement equipment
• Aerospace manufacturing or other high-tolerance manufacturing experience is strongly preferred
• Additive manufacturing and post-processing experience is advantageous
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of metalworking processes
• Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools
• Welding equipment experience is beneficial
• Forklift certification or experience is beneficial but not required
