Director of Resident Services
Background:
For 45 years, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) has provided a safety net of social welfare and community development services to empower people and communities in need. LTSC provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the Japanese American community in the Southland, builds multi-family affordable housing projects to uplift low-income neighborhoods of color throughout Los Angeles, and promotes equitable development and cultural preservation in the Little Tokyo neighborhood.

Summary of Duties:
The Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) plays a vital role in fostering a supportive, inclusive, and empowering living environment for residents, particularly those who are low-income, formerly unhoused, or facing systemic barriers. The RSC serves as a connector between residents, property staff, and community partners, ensuring access to resources, programming, and advocacy that promote stability, wellness, and self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities Include:
Resident Support & Advocacy
- Build trusting relationships with residents through regular engagement and active listening.
- Conduct needs assessments and develop individualized service plans.
- Provide referrals to community-based services including healthcare, mental health, legal aid, employment, and financial literacy + assistance.
- Support residents in navigating public benefits, housing retention, and crisis situations.
- Design and implement on-site programming that reflects resident interests and needs (i.e., wellness workshops, youth activities, cultural events).
- Coordinate logistics for community events and educational sessions.
- Collaborate with external partners to bring services and enrichment opportunities on-site.
- Maintain accurate and confidential resident records, service logs, and program documentation.
- Track outcomes and prepare reports for internal use and funding requirements.
- Ensure compliance with grant fund requirements and organizational policies related to resident services.
- Facilitate resident meetings, feedback sessions, and leadership opportunities.
- Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and psychological safety among residents and staff.
- Serve as a liaison between property management and residents to address concerns and foster communication.
Skills:
- Minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience in resident services, social services, community development, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health, Human Services, or a related field required.
- At least 1 year of experience working with homeless individuals.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse and special populations. Must be willing to provide support, advocacy and develop relationships following harm reduction principles with a very diverse formerly homeless population, including, but not limited to, people from a wide range of racial, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, gender and LGBTQ+ identities, as well as people who use drugs and people with mental health conditions and other disabilities.
- Strong understanding of affordable housing, resident services, case management practices, and culturally responsive, trauma-informed service delivery, with knowledge of community resource networks.
- Familiarity with nonprofit operations, including program evaluation, outcome reporting, data collection systems, and grant compliance.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, with professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence in engaging residents, staff, partners, and stakeholders.
- Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) preferred.
