Position: Community Organizer (SUD)

Community Organizer | Seeking an Excellent Communicator

The Wall Las Memorias is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to serving our Los Angeles communities through advocacy, education, and building the next generation of leadership,

anchored by our public national AIDS monument.

Title: Community Organizer Department(s): Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Division

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours a week) M-F 9am-6pm (some evenings/weekends)

Salary: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour.

The Wall Las Memorias is looking for a community-driven, excellent communicator, who is passionate about advancing health equity, and wellbeing vulnerable populations in Los Angeles, who are highly impacted by methamphetamine, opioid and other harmful substances.

The Community Organizer will assist in the development and facilitation of both in-person and virtual activities, training, and workshops aimed at increasing community knowledge, reducing stigma, and improving access to essential services. These efforts will include resource navigation and direct linkages to appropriate services for mental health support, healthcare access, substance use prevention and treatment, and family/youth support networks.

The Community Organizer will conduct outreach and linkage services to individuals in communities in need of resources. This person will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to identifying, engaging, and recruiting community members in assigned service areas and Supervisorial District in need of services. The community organizer will also ensure client information and materials distributed are appropriately tracked and documented.

This position will require travel within the neighborhoods and communities served to events, activities and scheduled meetings.

Responsibilities Community Outreach & Engagement
  • Coordinate with team members to participate in community outreach activities to reach target populations and recruit individuals into programs, services, support groups, community action boards and other activities that keep individuals engaged with the agency.
  • Build relationships with residents, businesses, community organizations, health centers, and schools.
  • Provide harm-reduction education and materials, program info, and safer-use education.
  • Represent the organization at meetings, coalitions, and events.
Program Support & Client Connection
  • Assist in implement program workplan to engage the target population in substance use prevention education, harm-reduction and ongoing programmatic deliverables.
  • Coordinate intakes, follow-ups, referrals, and warm handoffs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of outreach and services.
  • Co-facilitate workshops on substance-use prevention, stimulant risks, overdose, and wellbeing.
Community Organizing & Partnership Development
  • Identify needs and service gaps within the service area, suggesting ideas to meet the needs of the community and of the target population.
  • Mobilize community members to participate in wellness events and advocacy activities.
  • Support development and implementation of advisory groups and stakeholder committees.
Program Coordination & Administration
  • Maintain knowledge of local resources and public-health initiatives.
  • Assist in the completion of reports, data entry, and documentation on time.
  • Assist with outreach campaigns and public education.
  • Participate in training on harm reduction, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, crisis response, and other issues impacting marginalized communities.
Qualifications | Requirements
  • Experience with vulnerable communities highly impacted by meth, opioids and other substances.
  • Background in outreach, public health, or social services.
  • Ability to build rapport across diverse communities; commitment to equity and non-stigma.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable with street-based outreach and safety protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and data systems.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.;
    Live Scan required.
  • Ability to lift and transport outreach materials (up to ~25lbs).
