Development Manager – Grants & Institutional Funding

Catholic Charities of Los Angeles is one of the largest nonprofit human services organizations in California, providing vital services to thousands of individuals and families each year. Through programs that address food insecurity, housing instability, and family support, we help people move from crisis to stability and long-term self-reliance.

We are seeking a Development Manager to help advance this mission by securing critical funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This position plays a key role in expanding resources that support programs serving communities across Los Angeles County.

The Development Manager works closely with the Chief Development and Communications Officer and program leaders throughout the organization to identify funding opportunities and develop compelling proposals that support impactful programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Lead the development and submission of grant proposals, contract applications, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Collaborate with regional and program leaders to develop strong program narratives and budgets for funding proposals.
  • Monitor and track institutional funding opportunities to support agency-wide program needs.
  • Attend bidder conferences and gather information related to government funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate proposal development across programs to ensure alignment and avoid duplication.
  • Maintain accurate records of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and funding submissions.
  • Review and edit grant proposals to ensure clarity, accuracy, and competitiveness.
  • Support the preparation of annual Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funding requests.
  • Ensure all submissions meet required guidelines and deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, or institutional fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success writing and managing grant proposals.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database systems (experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
