Position/Program Information

Supervising Clinic Nurse II & Supervising Staff Nurse II – responsibilities include supervising nursing services in a clinic or emergency care unit, and providing 24‑hour supervision of nursing activities in an assigned inpatient care unit or ward.

Essential Job Functions
  • Establishes and makes adjustments to nursing schedules to distribute required nursing skills on one or more shifts and requests changes in staffing on the basis of changing ward census, workload and needs of patients.
  • Supervises patient care delivery and nursing activities provided by the staff and collaborates with other disciplines and departments to provide care/services in assigned areas.
  • Enforces and interprets regulatory requirements, nursing standards, goals, hospital and nursing policies and procedures governing patient care, security, safety, and unit operations.
  • Reviews and updates policy and procedures for assigned areas and conducts staff meetings to disseminate information, policies, and changes in policies and/or directives.
  • Evaluates and reviews evaluations of employee performance. Prepares formal answers to and recommends the adjustment of grievances and disciplinary action.
  • Ensures that staff are qualified to work in the assigned unit, coordinating orientation of new staff, assessing and validating skill sets and coordinating in‑service instruction and mandatory classes.
  • Investigates and answers formal patient complaints, queries, and patient events and prepares reports and implements corrective action plans.
  • Establishes and coordinates quality performance improvement activities.
  • Manages and monitors budget and resource utilization to ensure compliance with established budget. Collaborates with other departments to obtain resources and equipment required to deliver care.
Requirements
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct administrative and technical supervision to nurses, including registered nurses.
  • Current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions.
License(s) and Certificate(s) Required
  • Current, active certification in accordance with the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.
Physical Class III – Moderate

Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10‑25 pounds.

Desirable Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Any additional experience in excess of the selection requirements.
