Job Description
The Cardiovascular Intervention Center is a core element of the Smidt Heart Institute, performing more than 8,000 procedures a year. The department serves neonates through geriatrics, offering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for coronary artery disease, heart muscle function, and heart valve dysfunction.
Responsibilities- Assume responsibility and accountability for the nursing process and delivery of patient care.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment within electrophysiology and cardiac catheterization procedure rooms and the holding area.
- Cross‑train to circulate, monitor, and scrub for invasive procedures across all patient populations, from neonate to geriatric.
- Provide continuous care of cardiac patients from admission through discharge, including prolonged hours in a procedure setting with x‑ray exposure.
- Provide on‑call coverage for emergency procedures on evenings, nights, and weekends with an expected 30‑minute maximum response or arrival time.
The schedule includes four (4) ten‑hour shifts on weekdays, some Saturdays, and on‑call duties for nights and weekends approximately nine (9) times during a six‑week period. Employees living more than 30 minutes from the facility will stay in a local hotel while on‑call to remain available during emergencies.
Qualifications- Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program required; BSN strongly preferred. - License/Certification
:
Valid California RN license required; ACLS from the American Heart Association required; CCRN, CVRN, or RCIS required (or obtain within one year of hire to maintain CN III status). - Experience
: 3 years of acute care nursing experience required; at least 1 year of critical care experience strongly recommended; experience in special procedures, cardiac cath lab, or EP preferred; preferred experience in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions with all patient populations for CN II or III qualification.
