The Administrative Manager for Perioperative Services is responsible for educational programs for Perioperative Services. Patient care and services are carried out in collaboration with Service Line Coordinators, Ancillary manager, hospital administration and the medical staff and in compliance with organizational goals and appropriate regulatory agency requirements. The role manages daily operations of assigned units, promotes a positive and professional environment, holds supervisory responsibilities, maintains adequate and productive staffing, and collaborates with staff to meet or exceed quality and patient safety goals through shared governance.
EssentialDuties
- Lead opportunities to develop staff in various roles
- Oversee and actively participate in hiring and training of all staff
- Establish departmental goals and priorities
- Assesses performance and provides feedback
- Counsel or discipline staff as needed
- Integrate ethical principles in all aspects of practice
- Serve as a role model for education and professional nursing practice
- Promote lifelong learning and role modeling
- Lead committees, work groups and/or projects related to the implementation of educational activities
- Facilitate orientation of new staff to the organization
- Facilitate education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation
- Ensure the development of evidence-based educational materials
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment
- Respond to changes in nursing practice and develop programs to support those changes
- Ensure that educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values, and goals
- Interpret and communicate across multiple disciplines
- Formulate program outcomes and design curricula that reflect contemporary health care trends
- Establish systems for learning events to meet established goals and objectives
- Use available education resources to develop and deliver education efficiently
- Establish and maintain performance improvement and quality control activities which support the department and hospital
- Participate in planning of operational budget and goal setting for the nursing department and own unit
- Identify capital equipment needs with accurate preparation of evaluation scales and CER forms
- Serve as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure and program development
- Respond to regulatory mandates for research and management of sentinel events
- Respond to identified needs of Keck Medicine to promote quality patient care and safety
- Collaborate with interprofessional team to recommend educational strategies for implementation of clinical standards, regulatory standards, quality patient care and safety initiatives
- Support staff development with educational activities (certification, mentoring, life support, product rollouts)
- Support staff competency with educational activities including development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and remediation
- Identify and evaluate instructional materials in all types of media and formats
- Adjust content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs
- Provide educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development
- Consult with staff regarding individual learning needs
- Develop core education to address population specific nursing care
- Develop core education for the development of nursing leaders
- Assist learners in assessment of needs and identification of outcomes
- Incorporate principles of adult learning in planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs
- Prepare short and long term planning and programs to address identified needs
- Facilitate orientation of new staff to the organization and related education plans
- Ensure development of evidence-based educational materials
- Facilitate adult learning process, creating a climate which supports learning across the health system
- Support integration of research into practice and provide information to document effectiveness of staff development initiatives
