Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse (Community Living Center 215-2)

Summary

The Greater Los Angeles VA Health Care System is seeking 1 experienced Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in Nursing Service for their Community Living Center 215-2 for Day Shift. Located in Los Angeles, CA.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship:
    United States Citizenship
  • English Language Proficiency:
    Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d)
  • Education or Training:
    Must be a graduate of a practical or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant; or have completed health care education in the military service or training in the military service
  • Grade Determinations: GS-3

    Experience:

    None beyond the basic requirements
  • GS-4

    Experience:

    At least six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN
  • OR Graduation from an approved school and have one year of experience in nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical/nursing/patient care facility
  • OR Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration
  • GS-5

    Experience:

    Completion of at least one year at the GS-4 level or equivalent of qualifying experience as an LPN; demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care
  • Other requirements:
    Works with RN/MD/DO to orient/train less experienced staff; ability to educate patients and families about disease processes, medications, and treatment regimes
  • Knowledge and skill to prepare, administer, and document medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous) per policies; monitor patient response and report changes to RN/MD/DO
  • Emergency response:
    Recognize urgent or emergent situations and initiate appropriate interventions; assist in resuscitation as needed
  • Safety:
    Recognize breakage or malfunction of equipment and report hazards promptly
  • GS-6

    Experience:

    At least one year at GS-5 level; proficient in initiating, performing, and completing duties in providing care to diverse patient populations

  • The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06; actual selection range is GS-03 to GS-06
  • Physical Requirements:

    Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 35 lbs; walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling for up to 4-6 hours; pushing for up to 4-5 hours; reaching above the shoulder; carrying up to 15 lbs
Duties
  • This LVN uses technical and manual skills under the direction of the Registered Nurse or licensed physician in the area.
  • Performs a wide range of patient care duties throughout GLAHCS.
  • Completes work that requires general review by an RN or physician for appropriateness and conformity with policies and procedures.
  • Carries out patient care duties in inpatient and/or outpatient settings; supports the nursing team.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments, observes patient responses, and documents changes.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff; promotes patient safety and privacy.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and delivering care while considering emotional, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and age-related factors.
  • Supports diagnostic tests and procedures, including preparation and handling of instruments and monitoring patient condition.
  • Seeks educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and shares knowledge with staff.
  • Work Schedule:

    Full-Time, Day Shift; 12-hour rotating shift 7:30 am - 8:00 pm; may include weekends and/or holidays.
