Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Perform basic patient care activities, incorporating cultural and ethnic factors, and ensuring physical, psycho‑social and spiritual needs; differentiate normal and abnormal findings across all age populations.
  • Use hospital and regulatory standards of care, demonstrate judgment in the implementation of the transdisciplinary care plan; observe and report patient issues to LVN or RN.
  • Assist patients with basic living activities such as bathing, oral care, positioning, line changes, and ambulation.
  • Respond appropriately to concerns regarding patient safety related to the environment, equipment and patient behavior.
  • Provide care in emergency situations following established procedures and practices.
  • Communicate and follow the chain of command for notification of service issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of patient care issues; assist across adolescent to geriatric populations.
  • Ensure patient rights are respected and privacy and dignity are maintained.
  • Report suspected abuse or neglect appropriately.
  • Reinforce patient/family education and provide individualized teaching during the care‑giving process.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age‑specific care, safety measures, physiological values, skin integrity, behavior, motor skills, and other risk factors.
  • Practice universal precautions.
  • Complete hourly rounding and update white boards promptly.
  • Complete in‑services, competencies and health‑stream assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Attend staff meetings and return minutes.
  • Participate actively in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Understand procedures for reporting and responding to emergencies, utilities disruptions, and hazardous materials spills.
  • Know equipment capabilities, limitations, and appropriate applications.
  • Access and use computer systems.
  • Communicate respectfully with physicians, administrative staff, co‑workers, and patients/families.
  • Maintain a positive professional image and perform responsibilities professionally with flexibility in patient care service.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in changing assignments and staffing levels; complete work on time.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Assist managers in resolving and evaluating problem situations related to patients, families, physicians, or other departments.
  • Assume other duties as required.
Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    N/A
  • Preferred Education
    • High School graduate or equivalent
    • Completion of Nursing Assistant course
  • Minimum Work

    Experience and Qualifications:

    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Preferred Work

    Experience and Qualifications:

    Minimum six months recent experience in an acute care setting.
  • Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation
    • Current and Valid California Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) License
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
    • Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire)
    • Assault Response Competency (ARC) Training (required within 30 days of hire)
