The Neurosurgery service provides specialized inpatient care for patients with a wide range of neurosurgical conditions. The team rounds throughout the day across multiple inpatient units and partners closely with physicians, residents, nursing staff, and consulting specialties to deliver coordinated, patient‑centered care and facilitate smooth transitions from admission through discharge.
We are seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Inpatient Neurosurgery team. This role provides comprehensive inpatient care for neurosurgical patients through daily rounding, care coordination, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The APP will work closely with Neurosurgery attendings, rotating residents, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe, efficient, and high‐quality patient care throughout the inpatient stay.
This position is ideal for an independent, collaborative provider who thrives in a fast‑paced inpatient environment and is passionate about patient education and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Key Responsibilities- Organize and maintain the daily inpatient neurosurgery census.
- Perform inpatient consultations and daily patient rounds.
- Evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and document clinical encounters.
- Place orders for medications, laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic or therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, treatments, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with Neurosurgery attendings, rotating residents, consulting specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate patient status, care plans, and outstanding clinical tasks with supervising physicians.
- Provide education and support to patients, families, and nursing staff.
- Promote efficient patient flow and safe transitions of care.
- Master of Nursing Degree.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses (ANCC).
- Two (2) or more years of inpatient APP Neurosurgery experience preferred.
- Experience with inpatient rounding, care coordination, discharge planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Experience working with physician residents and interdisciplinary care teams.
- Current CA RN License.
- Current Nurse Practitioner License.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Current DEA License (schedule 2‑5).
- Current Basic Life Support Certification required.
