Position

Nursing Assistant at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System (VAGLAHS) in the greater Los Angeles area.

Full Time – Various Shifts and Days. Pay Rate: $22.00 - $25.67 hourly. Additional Rate: $5.09 per hour up to 40 hours per week, supplement health insurance premiums and/or be placed in Team Members’ 401a account.

• Serves as a member of the nursing staff and carries out routine nursing care and other personal services to assigned patients on any ward or tour assigned.
• Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, lifting, turning patients, providing oral, nail, and hair hygiene care, and performing preventive, rehabilitative, and therapeutic care/procedures within the scope of a CNA.
• Records in appropriate clinical records all care provided.
• Observes significant conditions, both physical and emotional, relevant to the health status of the patient, providing timely and accurate reports to designated clinical care team members and recording all relevant information in the clinical record.
• Performs a range of diagnostic support duties, including taking vital signs, neurological checks, collecting specimens, and preparing patients for tests, examinations, treatments, and/or surgery according to established procedures.
• Performs a range of treatment procedures that include changing dressings, giving enemas, colostomy care, tracheotomy care, and caring for patients in isolation, and/or continuous observation status.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, provides for safety needs of patients.
• Recognizes emergency situations (cardiopulmonary arrest, seizure, dysreflexia, etc.), takes appropriate action and reports the situation in a timely manner.
• Accompanies patients on diagnostic or therapeutic trips, assuming responsibility for basic decisions within the scope of a CNA while away from nursing units.
• Initiates emergency measures to control disruptive or violent behavior.
• Assists in the delivery of patient care as directed by the RN or LVN.
• Respects patient’s rights, including but not limited to visual and auditory privacy.
• Consistently demonstrates helpful, courteous, and respectful conduct at all times.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved CNA program through the state of California or equivalent required.
• Current certification as a CNA by the State Department of Consumer Affairs.
• Minimum 1 year’s experience with acute or long‑term care.
• Must possess current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified by the American Heart Association.
• Demonstrate a dedication to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
• Constant standing, walking, lifting, and bending required.
• Duties require providing manual assistance in lifting and positioning patients.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
• Understand, speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Must possess the ability to recognize and react to emergency patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance.
• Must be able to work any shift Monday‑Sunday.
• Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program required.
• A Real  (Apply for REAL  - California DMV) and/or unexpired U.S. Passport required to move through the credentialing process.
