Job Overview

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides nursing staff support in patient care delivery, clerical functions, and organization of the unit environment, including set‑up and maintenance of equipment. The emphasis on each area depends on the unit assigned.

• Respond to patient call within 10 minutes; anticipate patient needs; proactively make rounds to reduce patient calls.
• Maintain positive behaviors toward patients and visitors, smile and remain pleasant during interactions.
• Provide RN with necessary data related to patient assessment and contribute input into the patient’s plan of care, accurately implementing interventions based on routing, MD orders, and RN direction.
• Perform essential skills: vitals, daily weight, I & O, hygiene (bath, peri‑care, oral care, HS care, hair care), maintain clear and organized patient rooms, assist with meals/feeding, ambulation/mobility, turn bed patients every two hours, transfers from bed to chair, provide fresh water at shift start and end, prioritize patient needs.
• Ensure safety: safe physical environment, safe operation of patient‑care equipment, call light/telephone within reach, clear floors of fall hazards, uncluttered access to bathroom, ambulation, and emergency equipment (commodes, walkers, shower chairs, IV poles, beds, tables/chairs).
• Document all care provided: vital signs, intake and output, meal percentages, equipment used, and patient care.
• Communicate: announce presence before entering rooms, identify self to patient and visitors, explain plan of care, avoid inappropriate discussions, use computerized systems to send messages and document care, follow line of communication within the department, report pertinent information to RN/Charge Nurse promptly, collaborate with RN throughout shift.
• Maintain regulatory compliance: unit in continuous survey readiness, no food/drink in nurse station, no open containers in patient pantry, no outside food in patient refrigerator or floor, keep staff refrigerator clean, linens covered at all times, keep fire door closed, maintain clean/tidy nurses station, locker room, pantry. Protect patient confidentiality.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• High school or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited Certified Nursing Program (grandfathered from CNA if hired/transferred before 8/2016).
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CA DPH) (grandfathered if hired/transferred before 8/2016).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if no card, obtain within 30 days and renew before expiration.

• 1 year experience in a health care setting.

The hourly rate range for this position is $22.88 - $38.90.
