RN Clinical - 4 S ICU - Full Time 12 Hour Night Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union

Registered Nurse – Clinical Care

As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse uses the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients in a supportive, compassionate environment. The RN is accountable for coordinating patient care, patient and family education, and adherence to institutional standards, policies, and practices.

• Perform nursing assessment upon admission, each shift, and with changes of condition.
• Formulate nursing diagnoses based on assessment data.
• Develop and update individualized plans of care and document expected patient outcomes.
• Administer medications and IV therapy as ordered and complete patient care procedures per policy.
• Delegate tasks within scope of practice and ensure competency of all staff.
• Advocate for patients and manage restraint use with alternative measures as first line of action.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and complete on all flow sheets and chart forms (admission assessment, pain scale, falls, etc.).
• Provide patient/family education, unit orientation, and discharge planning in collaboration with case managers and physicians.
• Utilize patient care equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer guidelines (IV pump, feeding pump, PCA pump, etc.).
• Communicate effectively during shift reports, physician rounds, hand‑off reports, and electronic messaging.
• Manage time, prioritize responsibilities, and complete shifts on schedule.
• Adhere to regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, OSHA, HIPAA, universal protocol, medication reconciliation, etc.).
• Provide specialized care for medical‑surgical, ICU, step‑down/telemetry, dialysis, psychiatric, and surgical patients, including management of complex modalities (ventilators, CVVHD, ECMO, etc.).
• Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and nursing‑sensitive quality indicators.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); BSN grandfathered if hired prior to 12/2019.
• Registered Nurse license in California (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS);
  Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
• One year of acute inpatient hospital experience as an RN.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of medical procedures and ability to perform duties such as whole blood collection and apheresis procedures in compliance with policies.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.

• Specialty certification(s) related to the assigned unit or patient population.
• Additional CEH credits and recognitions (e.g., USCUH Nurse Week, unit spirit awards).
• Experience caring for specific populations (THA, TKA, spinal surgery, cystic fibrosis, organ transplant, ICU modalities, dialysis, psychiatric, etc.).

The hourly rate range for this position is $44.00 – $95.00.
