Overview

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides nursing staff support in patient care delivery, clerical functions, and unit organization, including setup and maintenance of equipment. The emphasis of duties depends on the unit assigned.

• Respond to patient call lights within 10 minutes and anticipate patient needs.
• Proactively make rounds to reduce patient calls and maintain positive interactions with patients and visitors.
• Provide data related to patient assessments to the RN and contribute input into the patient’s plan of care; implement interventions collaboratively with the RN.
• Perform essential skills to support positive patient outcomes, including: vitals, daily weight, intake and output, hygiene (bath, peri-care, oral care, HS care, hair care), assist with meals/feeding, ambulation/mobility, turning bedridden patients every 2 hours, and ensuring hydration at shift start and prn.
• Maintain clean, organized patient rooms and support safe patient-care equipment operation (IV poles, commodes, walkers, shower chairs, beds, etc.).

• Maintain a safe physical environment and ensure safe operation of patient-care equipment.
• Keep call light/telephone within reach; ensure floors are free of fall hazards; maintain accessible bathrooms and emergency equipment.
• Maintain a clean and uncluttered nurses station, locker room, and pantry; ensure linen is covered and fire doors remain closed.

• Document all care provided, including vital signs, intake/output, meal percentages, and equipment used.
• Introduce self to patients and visitors, explain the plan of care, and communicate changes to the RN/Charge Nurse in a timely manner.
• Utilize computerized systems to document care and relay patient/unit needs across departments; follow department communications protocol.
• Collaborate with the RN at the beginning and throughout the shift regarding patient care and data collection.

• Maintain continuous survey readiness and compliance with unit policies (e.g., no food/drink in nurses station, no open containers in patient pantry, and patient confidentiality).

• High school diploma or equivalent (Req).
• Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program (Req); grandfathered CNA certifications may apply for certain hires.
• 1 year healthcare experience (Preferred);
  English communication proficiency (Req).
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CA DPH) or equivalent (Req; grandfathered if applicable).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider (Req).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or equivalent; card must be obtained/renewed as required.
