Job SummaryUnder the direction and supervision of the Administrator, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the provisions of 24-hour nursing services to meet nursing needs of residents which includes spiritual, emotional, cultural, social, and restorative needs and ensures there are resident care policies/procedures designed to meet those needs. The Director of Nursing ensures proper coordination of staffing, and scheduling of nursing personnel for assignment of duties that are consistent with their and educational experience, based on type of resident acuity.
The Director of Nursing is totally responsible for staff development, maintenance of nursing service objectives, and standards of nursing practice and has twenty-four hour (24-hour) responsibility for resident care management and staff development to meet resident needs.

- Ensures 24-hour provision of nursing services within federal, state and company requirements based on acuity of residents
- Schedules and conducts daily rounds to see all residents
- Coordinates Nursing Services with other Resident Services
- Evaluates and identifies nursing personnel for development and/or educational needs
- Maintains standards of nursing services within the expectation of the Nurse Practice Act and the profession of nursing
- Supports the overall goals of the facility and the company
- Maintains standard of nursing practice in alignment with the organization’s mission and values
- Ensures that only those residents for whom services can be provided are admitted to the facility
- Develops and maintains Nursing Policy and Procedure Manuals as needed and in compliance with state, federal and company standards
- Develops and maintains written task guidelines for all nursing personnel
- Ensures exchange of essential information necessary for the provision of quality resident services
- Attends and participates in meetings and in-services as required
- Develops and maintains a budget for Nursing Services as defined by facility’s budget
- Ensures that all documentation necessary for quality resident care is maintained according to Federal, State, and Company policy
- Ensures that the nursing functions and training of staff are met
- Serves only the facility in the capacity of a Director of Nursing Services
- Establishes department work goals and coordinating delivery of care through supervision of nursing personnel
- Reviews daily assignment with Assistant Director of Nursing Services, RN Supervisor, and Charge Nurses
- Supervises all nursing personnel on their designated stations and responsibilities
- Represents professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech
- Adheres to company standards for resolving consumer concerns/complaints
- Ensures that all resident/consumer rights are protected
- Monitors the inventory and ordering of supplies to meet resident needs
- Recommends number and level of staff for nursing care to be employed
- Follows organizational and departmental procedures
