MajorResponsibilities / Essential Functions
- Perform basic patient care activities, addressing the physical, psycho‑social, and spiritual needs of patients and incorporating cultural and ethnic factors within job limits.
- Use hospital and regulatory standards of care to implement the transdisciplinary care plan, reporting findings to the LVN or RN as required.
- Assist patients with basic living activities such as bathing, oral care, positioning, line changes, and ambulation.
- Respond appropriately to patient safety concerns related to the environment, equipment, and patient behavior.
- Provide care in emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
- Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for patient‑care issues when necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of patient‑care issues and assist across the healthcare continuum for patients aged adolescence to geriatric populations.
- Respect patient rights, ensuring privacy and dignity during all care activities.
- Report suspected cases of abuse or neglect involving adolescent through geriatric patients as appropriate.
- Reinforce patient/family educational needs and provide individualized teaching, monitoring effectiveness through patient responses.
- Apply age‑specific care knowledge for adolescents through geriatric populations, assessing safety, physiological norms, skin integrity, behavior, and motor skills.
- Practice universal precautions.
- Complete hourly rounding, update white boards promptly, and complete departmental and hospital‑wide in‑services and competencies on time.
- Attend staff meetings, actively participate, and return meeting minutes.
- Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Understand procedures for reporting and responding to facility emergencies such as fire and hazardous‑material spills.
- Know equipment capabilities and limitations, and access and use computer systems effectively.
- Communicate respectfully and caringly with physicians, administrative staff, co‑workers, and patients/families.
- Maintain a positive professional image, demonstrate flexibility, and collaborate with co‑workers.
- Adapt to changing patient assignments, staffing levels, and environments, completing work on time.
- Demonstrate critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Assist department managers or supervisors in resolving and evaluating problem situations related to patients, families, physicians, or other hospital departments.
- Assume other duties as required, including coverage for infant, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
Minimum Education
N/A
Preferred Education- High school graduate or equivalent, preferred.
- Completion of Nursing Assistant course, preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Minimum six months recent experience in an acute‑care setting, preferred.
- Current and valid California Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire).
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) training (required within 30 days of hire).
