Safety Specialist

• Assist with implementation of prevention-focused health, safety and environmental (HSE) and security programs
• Assist and promote operating-company-specific project implementation and training supporting Sysco's HSE objectives
• Complete assigned new-hire orientation training programs
• Maintain safety-program records, including training logs, reports, and inspections
• Implement and train employees and supervisors on new or existing training programs
• Inspect facilities for existing or potentially unsafe conditions
• Participate in vehicle-accident and injury investigations
• Assist with root-cause identification and development of corrective actions
• Engage associates to follow proper work methods
• Complete observations and coaching of high-risk associates
• Monitor equipment inspections and recommend corrective/preventive measures
• Support site management in implementing HSE plans
• Promote a proactive, zero-incident safety culture
• Provide supervisor and management training on root-cause analysis
• Interface with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state/local regulators in the Safety Director's absence
• Assist with the company-wide annual HSE training plan
• Develop effective interdepartmental relationships
• Support execution of emergency preparedness procedures and policies
• Interpret, train on, and enforce company policies and procedures
• Maintain associate relations through regular interaction and communication
• Monitor associate morale and provide feedback to leadership

• Associate's degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of safety experience with OSHA certifications
• 2+ years with direct hands-on safety experience in a warehousing, manufacturing or transportation operation
• 2+ years of experience with Occupational Safety preferred
• Has attained or is working toward certification in safety as a recognized safety professional
• Must possess a valid Driver's License
• Strong interest in safety with a proven record of results
• Ability to drive a strong safety philosophy and implement constructive behavior changes in Operations safety
• Solid analytical skills
• Excellent employee relations and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills
• Leadership and team-building skills, able to influence decision-makers
• Proven knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, and ability to learn Sysco technology software and programs
• Ability to effectively use time and resources to accomplish initiatives and program goals
• Ability to analyze and independently solve difficult situations and problems
• Successfully demonstrate Leadership Framework competencies
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone, and hear
• Ability to sit and reach with hands and arms
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
• Ability to perform limited travel to Sysco facilities or operating companies

Demonstrates expertise in implementing health, safety, and environmental programs while fostering a proactive safety culture. Proficient in training, compliance with OSHA regulations, and effective communication to enhance employee relations and safety practices.
