Position: Staff Research Associate 1

Staff Research Associate I

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a Staff Research Associate I. This position will support molecular and cellular biology research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include performing core laboratory techniques such as qPCR, Western blotting, and tissue culture, as well as maintaining a small mouse colony. Animal-related duties include handling, ear tagging for identification, tail sampling for DNA isolation, weaning, and PCR-based genotyping.

In addition, in this role, you will assist with the operational coordination of clinical research and trial activities, ensuring work is completed in alignment with study protocols, regulatory requirements, and project timelines.

Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Good work ethics, strong communication skills, honest, and ability to work well with minimum supervision or as a part of a group.
  • Excellent skills with common molecular and cell biology techniques including DNA/RNA/protein isolation, genotyping.
  • Ability to work efficiently and complete tasks with thoroughness and accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills to effectively establish rapport, and build relationships.
  • Skills sufficient to solve problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to adapt to changing job demands and priorities; work flexible hours to accommodate research deadlines.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a work environment that contains distracting stimuli and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible in handling work delegated by more than one individual.
  • Typing and computer skill/ability including word-processing, use of spreadsheets, email, data entry.
  • Ability to navigate numerous software programs and applications.
  • Ability to handle confidential material information with judgement and discretion.
  • Skill in coordinating information transfer among multiple constituents.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloning, mammalian cell tissue culture, bacterial transformation, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, mouse handling, dissection, and tissue collection.
  • Understanding of University procedures and policies for working with biohazard, radioactive and hazardous chemicals, and their disposal.
  • Experience in a Health Care Setting
  • BS/BS in molecular biology or related fields
