Research Assistant
The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a part-time Research Assistant to support the Center for Social Medicine and Humanities Department. You will support research projects focused on poverty, social inequality, incarceration, substance use, harm reduction, and overdose/infectious disease prevention and treatment among structurally vulnerable populations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and organize qualitative research data, interviews, field notes, and research databases
- Support coding, analysis, transcription review, and literature searches
- Maintain archival records, research files, and audiovisual data systems
- Assist with grant reporting, manuscript preparation, editing, and formatting
- Coordinate administrative and project-related activities, including scheduling, communications, and tracking project progress
- Support collaboration across multiple research sites and partner organizations
- Provide general research and administrative support for ongoing projects
Salary range: $30.12/hr - $35.92/hr
Job qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social Science, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, or related field (preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in office management, research administration, health services delivery, or health access research (preferred)
- Comfort working with structurally vulnerable and underserved populations
- Ability to assist with qualitative data coding, transcription review, dictation, and database management
- Understanding of medical and public health literature, as well as social science and humanities theories (preferred)
- Proficiency with qualitative research and data management software, including NVivo, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Zotero, and similar research applications (preferred)
- Ability to maintain accurate research records, databases, and documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Preferred)
- Ability to work flexible schedule
