Postdoctoral Scientist - Heart Institute - Makkar Lab

Job Overview

Supported by the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars‑Sinai, the Postdoctoral Researcher will work in Dr. Raj Makkar’s laboratory focused on novel transcatheter therapies for structural heart disease.

• Design and perform experiments, maintaining accurate records and analyzing results with the Principal Investigator.
• Develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
• Carry out routine and complex laboratory procedures over the training period.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Assist with publication and presentation preparation as author or co‑author.
• Participate in grant proposal preparation (not responsible for funding).
• Observe MD‑patient or MD‑human research subject interactions related to the research.

Education: Doctorate in a field directly related to the area of research specialization.

• Post‑doctoral appointment of 1–5 years.
• Independently conducts research projects designed by the mentor (PI) within the area of specialization.
• Demonstrated aptitude for experimental protocols, detailed data collection, analysis, and operation/maintenance of specialized equipment.
• Knowledge of safety standards and equipment maintenance procedures.
