Student Research Assistant (Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics)

Description The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a part-time Student Researcher to join our Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics. This is a multi-site international research program focused on the genetics of major psychiatric and neurological disorders and advancing our understanding of the development, function, and degeneration of the central nervous systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist data scientists with processing imaging datasets using established image processing and neuron reconstruction pipelines
  • Utilize specialized software and computational tools to generate reconstructed datasets for research analyses
  • Review, correct, and validate reconstructed datasets to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality
  • Organize, track, and manage imaging datasets to support efficient team workflows and data distribution
  • Follow established protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure research data integrity and reproducibility
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and research team members on assigned projects and research activities
Qualifications
  • Must be a current UCLA student
  • Pursuing a degree in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with neuron reconstruction and/or image processing workflows
  • Experience working with imaging datasets, image analysis software, or computational research tools (preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to follow details instructions, established protocols, and standard operating procedures
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic research environment
