The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is in search of a Research Lab Technician II who can assist with an ongoing NIH-funded research on the role of noncoding RNAs in tobacco-related diseases. We look for a competitive individual who has a detailed understanding of the regulatory function of noncoding RNAs in controlling gene expression in health and disease states.

The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of and hands-on experience with routine molecular biology techniques, and familiarity with pre-processing and analysis of 'omics' data, including RNA-seq and miRNA-seq.

The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree in molecular biology, computational biology, computer sciences, bioinformatics, or related disciplines. Proficiency in R and/or Python and familiarity with bash/Linux command-line, cloud cluster computing, and database management, and possession of programming skills are highly desirable.

The hourly rate range for this position is $25.71 - $31.30. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education:

Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

2 years Minimum Field of Expertise:
Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
