Requisition Number: JPF
10010

The Assistant Researcher in the Translational Thoracic Oncology laboratory of Dr. Burt will perform research under his guidance, with opportunities to progress as an independent researcher. The primary focus is investigating a novel mass spectrometry platform (the MSPen) for rapid diagnosis of lung cancer and determination of driver mutations, which currently take 10-14 days. The project also includes intraoperative diagnosis and assessment of surgical margins, as well as designing MSPen probes for minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy.

Additional projects involve biomarkers of response and resistance to immune checkpoint blockade in malignant pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer, funded by NIH.

The role involves participating in lab development, manuscript preparation, presenting at scientific meetings, and grant writing. The candidate may supervise other researchers and has opportunities for advancement. Experience in proteomics or tumor immunology is preferred. This is a 12-month non-Senate position, with step based on experience.

Start Date: 12/2024

The project focuses on using mass spectrometry to improve diagnosis, margin assessment, and biomarkers in thoracic malignancies, integrating data from various platforms like imaging mass cytometry and spatial transcriptomics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Study design, data collection, statistical analysis, and literature review.
  • Preparing manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Working independently on multiple projects.
  • Training and supervising lab personnel, including students and postdocs.
  • Communicating with scientists across institutions.
  • Applicants should have at least 3 years of translational research experience in academia. Proteomics and tumor immunology experience are desirable.
