Gallery Officer

Position Summary

Gallery Officers will observe and report all safety and/or security hazards relating to visitors, members and other employees, and detect and report damage to property and artifacts under the supervision of a Senior Security Officer, Security Supervisor and/or Director of Security.

• Perform security patrols by foot or vehicle, answer visitor inquiries, respond to emergencies according to defined procedures, and monitor the movement of staff, visitors, assets, equipment and materials.
• Provide meal and break coverage to other officers in the galleries, requiring knowledge of all galleries and their alarm locations.

• Participate in ongoing training programs on safety, fire and emergency procedures, security equipment, and related areas.
• Maintain a high level of customer service to all staff and visitors.
• Be prepared to report to work to meet Museum needs and to perform other duties as directed.

• Experience in security, public safety, military and/or customer service preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing and via radio.
• Ability to complete security forms and write reports.
• Flexible schedule including overtime, evenings, weekends, and ability to work between Autry Museum locations as needed.
• Current valid California driver’s license.
• California resident.

• Standing for long periods of time (average 8 hours per shift) and wearing a radio earpiece at normal volume.
• Quick response required in emergencies; may be required to operate a golf cart for patrols.
• Ability to ascend and descend stairs, open doors, and write reports.
• May work evening special events and outdoor posts, which may include inclement weather, dust, dirt and noise.
