Background

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St.

Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

THE ROLE

The Skid Row Care Campus is a comprehensive, low-barrier service center providing individuals experiencing homelessness with access to hygiene facilities, case management, health and behavioral health services, and connections to housing and other essential resources. The Campus offers a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment that promotes dignity, stability, and pathways to long-term housing.

The Client Support Specialist (CSS) Lead is a hands‑on working lead who coordinates shift‑level CSS assignments and coverage while remaining actively engaged with participants in the courtyard, common areas, and other participant‑facing spaces.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Coordinate daily CSS assignments, coverage, shift briefings, handoffs, and participant‑service priorities.
  • Model proactive, trauma‑informed participant engagement and help participants connect to campus and community resources.
  • Support warm handoffs, appointments, follow‑up, navigation, and coordination with Case Management and ICMS staff.
  • Coach CSS staff, reinforce role boundaries and documentation expectations, and coordinate with Safety when concerns require additional support.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in homeless services, outreach, service navigation, case‑management support, healthcare navigation, peer support, or other direct‑service settings preferred.
  • Prior lead, supervisory, or team‑coordination experience preferred.
  • Strong participant‑engagement, service‑navigation, leadership, communication, de‑escalation, and problem‑solving skills.
