Software Engineer, Data Engineer
ROLE SUMMARY
Build and lead a team of software engineers and analysts, driving innovation across Viant’s big data and DSP platforms. Design and deliver scalable systems that support data processing, analytics, and machine learning capabilities in collaboration with partner engineering and product teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Build and lead high‑performing teams by driving best engineering practices, accelerating delivery, and upholding strong architectural and code quality standards.
- Design and build data pipelines, API services, streaming systems, or real‑time analytics.
- Foster a culture of continuous growth and improvement through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and clear measurable outcomes.
- Adopt and drive innovations with AI tools and agents.
- Collaborate with product & project management stakeholders to provide accurate estimations and plans, and track project deliveries.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance platform scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Analyze large datasets to inform decision‑making for projects.
- Occasionally participate in code/design reviews, providing technical guidance while balancing leadership responsibilities.
- Ensure alignment between engineering priorities and business goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering;
Master’s preferred. - 3+ years managing and leading engineering teams.
- 7+ years hands‑on programming in Java and/or Go.
- Experience working with geographically remote team members and contractors.
- Proven track record of building large, horizontally scalable distributed systems.
- Deep knowledge of cloud providers, especially AWS and GCP.
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL/Postgre
SQL) and columnar databases (Big Query). - Experience building large customer‑facing applications.
- Successful experience with agile development, continuous integration, and SCRUM practices.
- Ad tech industry experience preferred.
Base compensation range: $160,000 – $200,000.
California law compliance: the range provided is a reasonable estimate of compensation for the role. Final title and compensation will be based on experience and education.
