Job Description

A leading research institute at a large Los Angeles higher education client is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to join their team.

This is a full‑stack web developer position focused on front‑end (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and back‑end (Java, JSP, Servlets, Tomcat) and database (SQL).

• Develop new features, document, QA/test, fix bugs, and improve code quality.
• Collaborate on design choices, prototype as needed, and implement straightforward features.
• Continuously test code during development and fix bugs promptly.
• Set up development environment (Java, Tomcat, MySQL, Git) on the workplace computer.
• Communicate progress, problems, and status effectively to the team.

$35-$55 per hour.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 3-10 years of full‑stack software engineering experience across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience developing web applications, especially single‑page applications using AJAX.
• Strong understanding of networks, browsers, and staying current with evolving technologies (HTML5, JavaScript standards, etc.).
• Experience in testing, performance improvements, and bug fixing.

• Java (JSP, Servlets), Tomcat web server.
• Front‑end development with HTML/CSS/JavaScript (jQuery, other libraries, AJAX).
• Ability to hand‑code HTML/CSS.
• MySQL – SQL, database design, and development.
• Git version control.
• Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows (or strong knowledge of both).
• Knowledge of other programming languages (Go, Python, etc.), shell scripting, other web servers (Apache, Go), and Linux system administration.
