Job Description
A leading research institute at a large Los Angeles higher education client is seeking a passionate Software Engineer to join their team.
This is a full‑stack web developer position focused on front‑end (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and back‑end (Java, JSP, Servlets, Tomcat) and database (SQL).
Responsibilities- Develop new features, document, QA/test, fix bugs, and improve code quality.
- Collaborate on design choices, prototype as needed, and implement straightforward features.
- Continuously test code during development and fix bugs promptly.
- Set up development environment (Java, Tomcat, MySQL, Git) on the workplace computer.
- Communicate progress, problems, and status effectively to the team.
$35-$55 per hour.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- 3-10 years of full‑stack software engineering experience across the software development lifecycle.
- Experience developing web applications, especially single‑page applications using AJAX.
- Strong understanding of networks, browsers, and staying current with evolving technologies (HTML5, JavaScript standards, etc.).
- Experience in testing, performance improvements, and bug fixing.
- Java (JSP, Servlets), Tomcat web server.
- Front‑end development with HTML/CSS/JavaScript (jQuery, other libraries, AJAX).
- Ability to hand‑code HTML/CSS.
- MySQL – SQL, database design, and development.
- Git version control.
- Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows (or strong knowledge of both).
- Knowledge of other programming languages (Go, Python, etc.), shell scripting, other web servers (Apache, Go), and Linux system administration.
- Problem solver with attention to detail.
- Self‑sufficient, proactive, and takes pride in work.
- Strong learning ability, intelligence, initiative, and enthusiasm.
