Job Description
We're looking for an engine-adjacent Technical Artist for Horizon animation. You'll ship C++ features and fixes in the animation runtime, design Type Script scripting APIs for creators, and build the test assets and pipeline checks that keep content healthy — owning features end to end, from prototype to documented, durable SDK surfaces.
Responsibilities- Build and ship runtime animation features in C++: layered blending, skeleton masks, root motion, state machines, and animation sockets.
- Debug and fix production animation issues (T-posing, blend errors, race conditions) using crash reports, telemetry, and regression tests.
- Design creator-facing Type Script animation APIs and carry them through review to stable, documented SDK releases.
- Create animation test content in DCC tools, including edge-case rigs and malformed assets, to validate importer warnings and pipeline behavior.
- Strengthen team infrastructure: deterministic integration tests, feature gating, benchmarks, and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Partner with engine teams and external studios to triage issues and turn creator requests into shipped APIs.
- 5+ years as a technical artist, animation programmer, or engine engineer in games or real-time 3D.
- Strong C++ in a real-time engine, including multithreading and concurrency safety.
- Deep knowledge of skeletal animation systems: state machines, layered/additive blending, root motion, retargeting.
- Type Script or JavaScript proficiency and experience designing developer-facing APIs.
- DCC experience (Maya, Blender, or similar) with rigging/skinning fundamentals and FBX/USD interchange.
- Solid testing habits and experience in large, code-reviewed codebases.
- Shipped public or partner-facing SDK APIs with versioning and backwards compatibility.
- Familiarity with script bindings and codegen (V8, reflection, IDLs), ECS architectures, or animation compression.
- Production debugging: crash analysis, profiling, sanitizers, telemetry triage.
- Experience with AI-assisted developer tooling, shader/material pipelines, or networked gameplay testing.
