Disbo is a settlement disbursement and IOLTA compliance platform designed for personal injury law firms and their medical provider partners. The platform streamlines post-settlement workflows by replacing manual checks, spreadsheets, and trust-ledger calculations with automated, compliant disbursements from a single IOLTA trust account. Disbo offers real-time three-way trust accounting, built-in IOLTA and state bar-rule compliance, AI-powered medical lien negotiation, and comprehensive payment rails with a unified audit trail.

By ensuring providers are paid promptly with full documentation and firms can track every dollar, Disbo helps close cases with confidence and transparency.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Disbo, you will design, build, and maintain the core backend services that power our settlement disbursement and compliance platform. You will collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate complex legal and financial workflows into secure, reliable, and scalable software. This is a high-ownership role where your work directly moves money — accurately, compliantly, and on time.

• Architect and build new backend services and APIs supporting trust accounting, payouts, and compliance checks
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and raise the bar through thoughtful code reviews
• Integrate and harden payment and identity rails (Plaid for bank-linking and KYC, Modern Treasury for payment orchestration)
• Optimize performance and improve system observability, data integrity, and security
• Build features that support real-time accounting, reporting, and a complete audit trail
• Contribute to technical strategy and best practices, and mentor other engineers

• 5+ years building and shipping production backend software
• Strong fundamentals in API design, data modeling, and testable, maintainable code
• Experience with cloud-hosted services and modern CI/CD practices
• A track record of owning systems end to end, from design through production support
• Clear communication and sound judgment on tradeoffs in a fast-moving startup
• Bonus: fintech, payments, or other regulated/compliance-heavy experience (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, or similar)

We run a versioned REST API backing a single-page web app, hosted on Heroku, with security scanning built into CI. We integrate Plaid (bank-linking + identity/KYC) and Modern Treasury (payment rails), and we're building toward SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance. You'll join early enough to shape core architecture decisions.

Based in Los Angeles, CA. You'll start fully in-office while ramping up; after onboarding, the schedule moves to four days in-office and one day remote, with flexibility to revisit after your first year.

Base salary range: $110,000–$160,000, depending on experience. +
