Bespoke Mentis builds custom AI systems for regulated and operationally complex industries, including healthcare, enterprise, cybersecurity, legal, and financial services. We are not a demo shop. We build systems that real clients use.
Our active platforms include MIOS, Agent Conexus, CSOS, and Foresight. Our work sits at the intersection of AI, automation, cloud infrastructure, enterprise workflows, and governed software systems. We are a small, focused team. Everyone does real work.
About the RoleWe are looking for a Software Engineering Intern who has already built and shipped projects, understands the basics of full-stack development, and wants hands‑on experience working inside a real AI startup.
This is not a shadowing role. You will work directly with engineering leadership on scoped engineering tasks, bug fixes, internal tools, staging environments, reviewed pull requests, testing, documentation, and supervised updates across active platforms.
We use Cursor and AI-assisted development tools as a core part of how we build and maintain our systems. We will onboard you to our stack, workflow, and standards. What we need you to bring is a real engineering foundation: someone who has built things, broken things, fixed them, and understands the responsibility that comes with working near production systems.
Because we work with sensitive client systems, proprietary frameworks, and confidential infrastructure, this is an on‑site position in Torrance, CA.
What You Will Work On- Triage, reproduce, and help resolve bugs across active platforms, including Agent Conexus and MIOS
- Implement front‑end and back‑end updates based on client feedback and internal direction
- Work on scoped engineering tasks through branches, reviewed pull requests, and supervised deployment workflows
- Run structured tests across staging environments before changes are considered for production
- Support AWS infrastructure checks, configuration verification, and deployment validation
- Maintain and improve client‑facing platforms, including UI updates, website changes, service patches, and workflow improvements
- Document changes clearly, flag edge cases early, and communicate before anything touches a live environment
- Use Cursor and AI‑assisted development tools responsibly within our engineering workflow
We deal with live client environments and production‑adjacent systems. We cannot start from scratch with you. You need to come in with a foundation we can build on.
Required- Hands‑on experience building front‑end applications using React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, or Java Script
- A project, app, website, tool, or feature you can discuss that you actually built or shipped
- Working understanding of back‑end concepts, including REST APIs, server‑side logic, and databases such as PostgreSQL
- Ability to navigate and debug an existing codebase, not just write new code from scratch
- Solid working knowledge of Git, branching workflows, and version‑controlled team environments
- Disciplined approach to testing, environment verification, and pre‑deployment checks
- Clear communication, proactive blocker flagging, and careful decision‑making around production‑adjacent work
- Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as ECS, S3, Cloud Watch, IAM, or Secrets Manager
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, environment variable management, and infrastructure configuration
- Experience with Type Script, Node.js, or Python in a real project context
- Exposure to AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or Git Hub Copilot
- Prior internship, freelance, startup, or professional engineering experience
- Interest in cybersecurity, healthcare technology, enterprise AI, or regulated software systems
