HIRING:
Mid Level Backend Engineer, Node & Type Script, Stable Sports Tech Co, Used by Millions RECRUITER OVERVIEW:
Hey, I'm Will — Rumor has it I'm Colorado's #1 Most Connected, Respected & Bald-est #Dev Recruiter™. As an agency software engineering recruiter, my team and I are actively and continually partnered with an ever-growing rolodex of private & public tech companies, as well as VC backed and self-funded startups, Pre-Seed through Acquisition/IPO... What these companies have in common is that they ALL are looking to Hire "Uncommonly Good" Founding, Mid, Senior, Lead, Staff & Principal Software Devs ...
and of course, the Leaders of these Software Development Teams.
My client is a leading remote-first sports technology company with an enviable, collaborative, remote 1st culture. Their platform supports millions of users and tens of thousands of amateur sports organizations. Their engineering organization builds highly scalable, service-oriented, and event-driven systems using modern cloud technologies, APIs, databases, queues, caching, and observability tooling. I'm working directly with the CTO and 5 members of her team to hire 3 Devs: a Mid, a Senior, and a Staff ...
This is a new client of mine, but maybe already my favorite company to work with :)
- Super cool industry: They serve the Amateur Sports / Sports Tech space (they are the #1 in their space already, but that's only like ~10% market share)
- Diverse team, innovative culture: They strongly encourage and focus on hiring for diversity across all axes, which has led to an incredibly creative and innovative culture
- Lots of growth in sight! They are making HUGE pivots to grow and take market share in an industry ripe for product-focused development to drive tons of new customers.
- Unique balance of stability and growth: They've been around for 15+ years yet very small and nimble, with plenty of room for new "startup-like" initiatives and passionate innovators
- An AI philosophy that doesn't suck
:
They are AI-welcoming, but they want solid development fundamentals 1st (Good code and smart architecture will always rule the room).
These roles are heavily backend and product-focused
. We are seeking engineers who have worked extensively on the server side using Node.js and Type Script , backed by a proven track record of scaling microservices, executing complex database migrations, and architecting high-throughput, event-driven systems. Ideal candidates bring deep expertise across systems architecture, advanced SQL tuning, ORM management, and clean API design, paired with a strong product mindset focused on delivering core backend business logic that directly drives customer value.
They are also looking for people who have done this type of work at scale (i.e., on products with millions of users)
- Strong, recent, production Backend coding execution with a Node / Type Script focus
- A highly product-focused engineering mentality
- Proven depth in working and scaling with high-volume, high-scale products (ideally products with millions of users, using event-driven workflows, and asynchronous systems under heavy load)
- Strong SQL relational database mastery
- Demonstrated ability to mentor other engineers and clarify requirements during live coding, even when given ambiguous initiatives,
without relying on AI tools as a crutch. - Connection to sports or passion mission-driven companies strongly preferred**
THEY WILL PASS IF ...
They have already said "pass" to other folks that they felt were not a fit due to them being too heavy into either Platform work and/or being too Heavy on the Front End:
If you feel like any of the below describes YOU, these would NOT be the right roles for you.
- You are historically heavy into platform engineering work and historically focused on isolated internal infrastructure, distributed systems, and heavy internal tooling rather than shipping tangible end-user features that drive product velocity.
- You have historically leaned toward the front end, working with React, UI state management, or client-side development
- You do not have much recent production (at work) backend experience with Node/Typescript
- You have historically done a lot of work on products with 10s, 100s, or 1000s of daily active users (i.e., you have not worked much on products with 1,000,000+ daily active users)
* This role is Hybrid, 3 days a week in the LA area (at the Playa Vista WeWork)
