Summary
This position will operate within the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) program within the Greater Los Angeles - CA (GLA) VA Health Care System. The role serves as Supervisory Motor Vehicle Operator – providing transportation to veterans and their spouses who live in suburban areas of the GLA VA Health Care System and surrounding satellite clinics catchment areas. Driver is required to maintain a current California Department of Transportation CDL License OT) Class "B" with Passenger "P" endorsement.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 04/06/2026. Experience length is not required; candidates must demonstrate training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated according to the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements /
Working Conditions:
The operator must be in good physical condition, remain vigilant in adverse traffic and weather, and be able to exert the physical effort required for handling vehicles, loading patients, and operating hand and foot controls. The operator will often work outdoors, exposed to dirt, fumes, and the risk of cuts or bruises, and may drive in heavy traffic at highway speeds.
- Driver must maintain a current California Department of Transportation CDL License. This is an open continuous announcement; resumes will be sent to the hiring manager on an as‑needed basis.
- Major duties include but are not limited to: as Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor to the Transportation Section – establishing internal procedures, planning work assignments, and maintaining compliance with policy and motor vehicle operation practices.
- Reviews work in progress to assess quality and quantity.
- Determines employee task assignments, including training of new employees.
- Informs employees about current policies, practices, and procedures.
- Plans, schedules, and assigns tasks to ensure consistent coverage of all administrative duties.
- Approves or disapproves sick and annual leave consistent with current practice and policies.
- Provides on‑the‑job training and cross‑training for backup skills.
- Recommends promotions, reassignments, awards, or other status changes for assigned personnel.
- Performs driving duties, operating various types of motor vehicles including buses, trucks, vans, patient transport vehicles such as ambulances and wheelchair buses, passenger and shuttle vans.
- Provides non‑emergent, safe, reliable transportation of eligible veterans and cargo.
- Operates and provides preventive maintenance checks and services for patient transport vehicles.
- Interacts courteously and respectfully with a wide variety of people daily.
- Provides metrics to the VTS Mobility Manager of veterans transported via the VTS vehicles.
- Ensures only eligible veterans and caregivers are transported to the Medical Center or satellite clinic and returned to their respective pick‑up locations.
- Verifies passengers against manifest and completes paperwork such as trip tickets and fuel records.
- Maintains current CDL License (OT Class "B" with Passenger "P" endorsement).
