LEAF, Inc. is seeking a Plans Check Engineer to perform building and safety plan review for public agencies and private clients. In this role, you will review architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-life safety plans for compliance with applicable building codes, ordinances, and standards. You will prepare detailed written comments, coordinate with jurisdictional staff, and provide clear guidance to design professionals and contractors.
The position requires strong technical judgment, code knowledge, and communication skills, with opportunities for training, certifications, and advancement across diverse projects.
Responsibilities
- Review building and site plans for compliance with building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire codes
- Prepare detailed written plan review comments and correction lists
- Interpret and apply IBC, IRC, CBC, and related codes, standards, and local ordinances
- Coordinate with jurisdictional staff, architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve code issues
- Provide technical guidance on code requirements and alternative materials or methods
- Document review decisions and maintain organized project records
- Support building safety, permit, and inspection workflows as needed
- Participate in training and stay current with code updates and industry best practices
