Position

The Position:
What Will You Do & How Will We Collaborate?

The history teacher will be someone who loves visionary thinking as well as tactical execution, a teacher with an entrepreneurial spirit and a grounding in best practices in history education in a middle school setting. The history teacher will join a highly collaborative and exceptional Humanities team. The teacher will be responsible for teaching 4 sections of Middle School History. They will collaborate regularly with a grade level teaching team, especially building out a vertical articulation program in the 5th-8th grades.

The teacher will incorporate a highly effective advisory program with a group of advisees and participate in SEL learning and RBB planning.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in a collaborative employee culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of JK - 12th grade education
  • Teach 4 sections of Middle School History
  • Advise 12+/- students, and support students in their Reach Beyond Block once a week
  • Provide a hands-on, inquiry-based style of teaching that exemplifies how student wellness, intellectual rigor, and a deep commitment to social impact and DEI are critical to a Hillbrook learning experience
  • Effectively manage flexible, collaborative learning experiences with various sized groups of students
  • Participate on a grade level team including weekly meetings, class trips, and school events
  • Thoughtfully integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Run a once a week lunch club and perform supervisory duties at break and lunch 4 to 5 shifts a week
  • Collaboratively manage and participate in a one-week Reach Beyond Week experience (transdisciplinary, project-based courses both local and non local)
  • Report to the Head of Middle School
Qualifications
  • Desire and ability to work in a collegial, highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a diverse, dynamic, and progressive school community
  • A commitment to anti-racism and demonstrated skill designing equitable and inclusive educational experiences and learning environments that incorporate themes of diversity and justice
  • Bachelor’s degree in History or related field.
  • Experience with competency-based education encouraged
  • A love of and experience in teaching middle school-age children
  • Proficiency in and curiosity about educational technology
  • A growth mindset, sense of humor, and excellent organizational and communication skills
