Water Treatment Student Intern

About the Internship

Johnson Service Group is looking for a student intern for a water treatment plant. This hands‑on internship provides experience in water treatment operations under the guidance of certified operators. Interns will gain practical skills in plant operations, SCADA monitoring, safety procedures, and basic laboratory analysis, preparing them for a career in water treatment and environmental engineering.

The selected candidate is required to report on‑site 100% of the time and strictly adhere to all safety protocols.

• Required: Currently enrolled in or completed an Engineering, Science, or Water‑Related Program within the last six (6) months.
• Required: Pursuing state certification to operate at a Drinking Water Treatment Facility or Advanced Water Treatment Facility. (High school graduates are eligible to take the entry‑level Grade T1 exam and obtain certification immediately.)
• Demonstrated community service and strong safety orientation.
• Mechanically inclined, curious, and eager to learn.
• Ability to perform shift work, including early mornings (e.g., 5 a.m. start).

• Participate in shift handovers and plant pass‑down procedures.
• Learn and follow safe work practices in a water treatment environment.
• Train with certified operators to perform plant rounds and operational duties.
• Conduct basic water sampling and analysis.
• Assist with cleaning, organizing, and general housekeeping (hosing basins, sweeping, etc.).
• Monitor plant operations using SCADA systems.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations and safety.

• Be enrolled in or have completed an Engineering, Science, or Water‑Related Program within the last six (6) months.
• Commit at least 15–20 hours per week (flexible around school schedules).
• Reside within 150 miles of Los Gatos, CA, by the start date.
• Provide proof of enrollment or graduation prior to starting.
• Successfully pass pre‑employment screening, including reference, background, and criminal checks.

Full or Part‑Time Contract (can work with student’s schedule). $28.27/hr jsg offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance options, short‑term disability, 401(k), weekly pay, and more.
