Position: Day Camp Healthcare Manager (RN)

Outdoor Lab is a two‑week day camp for kids ages 6-13 that blends classic summer camp fun with hands‑on STEAM activities in an outdoor environment. Our program emphasizes connection and belonging, healthy competition, and character strengths like confidence, creativity and respect. The Outdoor Lab Healthcare Manager

We are looking for a leadership position responsible for overseeing the health and safety of Outdoor Lab campers and staff. The Healthcare Manager contributes to Outdoor Lab’s camper and staff outcomes and plays a primary role in achieving goals for an outstanding experience.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers
    • Provide first aid, permitted treatments, and follow‑up monitoring.
    • Determine when a camp member should be removed from activities or sent home.
    • Follow healthcare policies/procedures as described in the Outdoor Lab Healthcare Plan and treatment procedures.
    • Initiate emergency procedures, including contacting EMS, when needed.
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of campers and staff
    • Set up the camp Health Center.
    • Inventory and maintain all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
    • Oversee development and implementation of the Outdoor Lab Healthcare Plan. Ensure compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards and applicable state/local health regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed systems for medication management, health record retention, and care documentation according to state and ACA Standards
    • Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file.
    • Maintain documentation of all care provided, including medication logs and incident reports. Prepare and utilize daily medical logs for treatment and medications.
    • Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms.
  • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies
    • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp offices, activity areas.
    • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
  • Ensure proper training of all staff in first aid, emergency procedures, and health guidelines
    • Ensure camp staff know their role related to healthcare and first aid, consistent with camp Healthcare and Operating policies.
    • Provide or ensure orientation is provided that addresses first aid, health center procedures, emergency procedures, accident prevention and risk management, staff health assessments of campers, policies on contacting parents, and any specific camper health and social needs.
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp
    • Review individual health forms and individualized plans before camp attendance. Verify health history, examination, and emergency authorization.
    • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
    • Keep all medications used by campers and staff. Administer approved medications to campers and minor‑age staff as needed, consistent with parent and physician instructions.
  • Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp
    • Observe daily cleanliness in the food service facility and other areas throughout camp.
    • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the camp Site Director.

    • Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child’s health by telephone or email, consistent with camp Health Plan and policies.
    • Be knowledgeable of outside health resources.
    • Provide leadership in the camp’s risk management program.
    • Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed.
