THIS POSITION HAS A FOCUS IN THE AREA OF YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Under general supervision of a Recreation Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for developing and administering programs related to a variety of Department activities including aquatics, camps, classes, cultural, senior services, special events, sports, etc. This position will work closely with contractors, staff and community stakeholders to ensure high quality and engaging program offerings that support the achievement of LGS Recreation’s mission and vision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Maintain online program registration and content
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff
- Oversee department budget and expenditures to meet fiscal objectives
- Manage day‑to‑day operations to ensure compliance with all LGS Recreation policies and procedures including safety, supervision, and emergency response
- Secure and monitor facilities usage and transportation needed for field trips
- Purchase and maintain supplies for activities
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve program goals
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all program stakeholders
- Respond promptly and professionally to all stakeholder inquiries
- Conduct program quality visits, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs
- Conduct staff reviews to assess, improve and applaud their performance
- Identify and hire independent contractors to ensure safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate class offerings
- Ensure vendor contracts are completed prior to class start date
- Process vendor payments accordingly
- Develop and monitor department budget
- Develop and maintain effective program marketing and communication pieces
- Organize special events
- Ensure buildings and equipment are kept cleaned and maintained to standards
- Evaluate and monitor program offerings and delivery of services
- Ensure compliance with all LGS Recreation policies and procedures including safety, supervision, and emergency response
- Other related duties as assigned
Directly supervises program staff.
QUALIFICATIONSQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university in Education, Recreation, or a related field and two years of related experience; or four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees within the organization. - MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic math including calculations of fractions, percentages, and/or ratios. Must have budgeting knowledge and understand how to read, create, and monitor budgets. - COMPUTER
SKILLS:
Solid experience working with Microsoft Windows 7/8 and Office 2010, which includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and database programs. - REASONING ABILITY: Must have the ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, facilitate group discussions, and solve practical problems.
