Role Overview
Netflix is expanding personalization and discovery, and we’re looking for an exceptional research engineering manager to build the models and technology that power future experiences using large language models (LLMs) and other generative models.
In this role you will lead a group of talented machine‑learning researchers and engineers, build and guide a world‑class team, and cultivate a vision and strategy aligned with Netflix’s mission. You will drive innovation projects from research ideas through production A/B tests.
Responsibilities- Lead a team of researchers and engineers to develop and deploy foundational LLM models for downstream applications such as Search, Recommendations, Personalization, and Messaging.
- Build and lead a high‑performing research team, fostering an inclusive culture and mentoring team members.
- Cultivate a vision and strategy for the team, align goals with company objectives, and manage end‑to‑end project execution.
- Partner with multi‑disciplinary cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to translate research insights into production‑ready solutions.
- Experience leading a team of machine‑learning engineers and researchers.
- Strong machine‑learning and engineering background, data‑driven decision making, and passion for personalization.
- Track record of successfully applying machine‑learning solutions in real‑world, consumer‑facing products.
- Broad knowledge of machine‑learning with a solid mathematical foundation.
- Strong understanding of software engineering and large‑scale distributed systems.
- Great interpersonal and communication skills; ability to give and receive feedback and champion new ideas.
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- 10+ years total experience, including 5+ years in machine‑learning management.
- Expertise in deep learning and natural language processing.
- Experience leading teams focused on applied machine‑learning and research engineering.
- Track record of building large‑scale, consumer‑facing machine‑learning applications.
- Active publishing and reviewing at peer‑reviewed conferences and journals.
Annual salary only; no bonuses. Salary range for this role is $190,000 – $920,000, based on market indicators and individual experience.
