Position: Software Engineer 5 - Payments Experience Automation Infrastructure

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world and partner with a dream team to push the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom, and technology.

Mission

As the primary owner of the payment testing strategy, you will bridge the gap between complex backend payment logic and diverse frontend checkout experiences. You will thrive on building invisible infrastructure that allows engineers to move at lightning speed while keeping the member experience flawless.

Core Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the end‑to‑end testing strategy for payment management and checkout flows, ensuring support for hundreds of global payment methods.
  • Architect and build Generative AI‑powered tools to automate scenario generation, intelligently detect regressions, and provide smart test guardrails.
  • Develop software solutions that generate high‑quality, high‑cardinality synthetic test data to simulate complex global payment permutations.
  • Design tools to automatically detect, quarantine, and reproduce flaky tests. Take responsibility for weekly deployment sign‑offs.
  • Integrate test coverage data with runtime traces and code changes to provide a 360° view of system health and reliability.
  • Identify gaps in the existing suite of integration, visual screenshot, API, mock, contract, and performance tests, and work with the team to prioritize and close them.
  • Facilitate seamless end‑to‑end testing and integration for all other engineering teams leveraging the payments platform.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to foster a reliability‑first culture, documenting frameworks and troubleshooting guides that elevate the entire engineering organization.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers within the team and partner teams to identify needs and influence the direction of testing infrastructure.
  • Work with product and engineering to define test strategies for new features.
Technical Profile
  • Deep understanding of the Test Pyramid and knowledge of when to use unit tests versus integrated end‑to‑end flows.
  • Framework fluency: extensive experience with modern web automation tools such as Playwright or Selenium, along with API and contract testing frameworks.
  • System thinker: ability to correlate data across distributed backend systems and microservices.
  • Tester mindset: a pathologically curious approach that discovers the “edge cases of the edge cases.”
  • Languages and tools we use: Java, JavaScript, Python, Graph

QL, Git Hub Actions, Selenium Web Driver, Playwright, Jest, Cucumber, Mocha.
What Sets You Apart
  • Reliability First: Treat the reliability of our payment systems as a tier0 priority and own the testing strategy.
  • Customer and Developer Experience (DX) Obsessed: Build tools that make it easier for other developers to write and maintain high‑quality tests.
  • Global Perspective: Experience navigating local regulations, diverse currencies, and regional checkout behaviors.
  • Ownership: Drive success in your assigned areas and set the standards within a highly talented team.
