Overview
Mechanical Trades Technician – operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced mechanical and HVAC/R systems in a dynamic facility environment.
Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot advanced mechanical and HVAC/R systems.
- Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, piping, and boiler systems.
- Execute chemical water treatment duties, including testing of closed and open‑loop water systems and operating chemical injection systems.
- Utilize building automation control systems to monitor, troubleshoot, log, and operate HVAC/R equipment.
- Safely use HVAC/R hand and power tools, gauge sets, and equipment.
- Apply industry‑standard piping fittings and assembly techniques: compression, flared, threaded, brazed, and soldered fittings.
- Diagnose and correct electrical and control issues in HVAC/R systems (single‑ and three‑phase equipment).
- Maintain required records in a computerized database and operate the Energy Management System.
- Collaborate with other trade persons and provide guidance to staff as required.
- Obtain and maintain Department of Energy L or Q clearance.
- HVAC tradesperson with at least 5 years’ experience.
- Proficiency in layout, installation, modification, overhaul, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Experience performing maintenance on refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, piping, process systems, boilers, backflow prev enters, chemical treatment, water‑system testing, and related equipment.
- Knowledge of arc, inert‑gas arc, and gas welding and cutting, and safety practices in accordance with Uniform Building Codes.
- Familiarity with pneumatic, electric, and electronic microprocessor control systems.
- Ability to fabricate braces, jigs, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
- Capability to operate and maintain computerized databases and Energy Management Systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with water‑cooled chiller systems exceeding 200 tons.
- Experience with rotary drive compressor systems and multistage low‑ and high‑temperature chambers.
- Experience with built‑up air‑handling systems (makeup, supply, exhaust, return).
- Experience with heating water boiler systems that exceed 1,000,000 BTU /hr.
- Knowledge of safety‑based programs such as Engineered Safety, Behaviour‑Based Safety, NFPA, and OSHA training.
- Experience with advanced building automated control systems.
- Availability for on‑call duty and dynamic warm‑ups as required.
- Active Department of Energy L or Q clearance.
