Senior Accountant

Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a finance team in New Orleans, Louisiana. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening reporting processes, and delivering insights that help guide business decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, close-process experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and recurring accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting.

- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, keeping deliverables on schedule and resolving issues efficiently.

- Evaluate financial results and operating patterns to identify meaningful trends and support informed planning decisions.

- Produce financial statements and related reports in accordance with company standards and established accounting guidelines.

- Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and variance reviews to explain performance against expectations.

- Work directly with external auditors by organizing schedules, answering questions, and supplying requested documentation.

- Maintain and enhance internal control practices while identifying opportunities to improve accounting workflows and accuracy.

- Provide day-to-day guidance to less experienced accounting team members and encourage sound accounting practices across the department.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- At least 5 years of accounting experience in progressively responsible roles.

- Demonstrated background in month-end close activities and general ledger accounting.

- Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and completing account and bank reconciliations.

- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and accounting policy compliance.

- Ability to analyze financial information, investigate variances, and communicate findings clearly.

- Experience collaborating with auditors and supporting documentation requests in a timely manner. ERP experience required.
