Job Overview
The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana. The Center for Vital Records and Statistics offers a career progression opportunity to provide exceptional customer service, safeguard confidential vital records, support statewide registration partners, and contribute to one of the agency’s largest revenue‑generating programs.
Responsibilities- Processes, reviews, records, and issues marriage licenses while ensuring compliance with Louisiana Vital Records laws, regulations, and agency policies.
- Provides exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries from the public and professional partners, explaining vital records services, fees, and legal requirements.
- Serves as a liaison with Clerks of Court, judges, clergy, officiants, funeral homes, hospitals, and other stakeholders by providing technical guidance on marriage and vital records registration.
- Reviews and processes paper and electronic vital event records, verifies document accuracy and completeness, resolves discrepancies, and maintains accurate records in the LEERS system.
- Assists customers requesting vital records by verifying eligibility, reviewing applications, processing requests, and safeguarding confidential records in accordance with state law.
- Maintains administrative and operational support by reconciling bank notes, managing records retention, preparing production reports, supporting inventory activities, and assisting with mail processing.
- Participates in staff meetings, completes required training, supports departmental projects, and performs additional duties as needed to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Accepting Direction: Open and willing to follow guidance or instructions.
- Following Policies and Procedures: Ability to follow, reinforce, adapt, or develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal and state legal requirements.
- Thinking Critically: Ability to analyze information objectively, identify connections across sources, and form logical, well‑supported conclusions.
- Two years of experience in administrative services.
- Evidence of academic experience: every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university counts as six months of experience.
