Clerical Assistant ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Clerical Assistant to support the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), Eastern District of Louisiana (EDLA). The USAO EDLA prosecutes and defends cases on behalf of the federal government. In this role, you will provide clerical and administrative support to the Monetary Penalties and Recovery Unit (MPRU), assisting both the Financial Litigation Unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit with data entry, case documentation, and asset-related casework.

You will help ensure case records, financial documentation, and asset-related information are entered, maintained, and updated accurately and efficiently. This is a full-time opportunity. We can offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides clerical support to various office personnel in the MPRU
  • Enters information into various databases, including opening cases and establishing new debts in CDCS, the FLU collection database
  • Closes expired or fully paid debts
  • Generates routine reports through Analytics, the FLU reporting database, including Weekly and Monthly Collection Reports, Statistical Reports, Tickle/Task Reports, and Indirect Payment Reports
  • Generates routine documents, including Demand Letters, Default Letters, Employment Verification Letters, Liens and Releases of Lien, Motions to Enroll and Substitute Counsel of Record, Petitions to Remit Fine, Garnishment pleadings, Direct Notice letters for Asset Forfeiture, and Conflict of Interest forms for AUSAs
  • Assists and supports Collection Agents, Paralegal Specialists, and the Supervisory Paralegal Specialist in the collection of debts in criminal and civil cases, including reconciling payment histories and posting missing or indirect payments
  • Assists with asset investigations and enforcement to recover restitution owed to crime victims and agencies, including running reports and research through CLEAR, Lexis/Nexis, credit reports, assessor office searches, and skiptracing
  • Records liens and abstracts of judgment liens in applicable parishes/counties and enters recordation information in CDCS
  • Redacts personally identifiable information (PII) from medical records, financial records, and other documents requiring redaction
  • Provides routine administrative support, including opening electronic and paper files, entering calendar dates, preparing direct notice for Asset Forfeiture cases, entering data into the case management system, and closing files, scanning, and records maintenance
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Specialized experience that has equipped the applicant with the competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, typically related to the work of the position to be filled
  • Computer skills: proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access, and other databases, as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office
  • Skill in meeting and dealing with people in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal, including Motions and Briefs
LOCATION
  • U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Louisiana — (On-site required)
CLEARANCE
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must be eligible for a Minimum Background Investigation
CLIENT

TRAVEL
  • Local travel within the commuting area is not reimbursed; non-local travel may be required and must be authorized in advance by the Contracting Officer
WORK HOURS
  • 40 hours per week, 8 working hours per day, Monday–Friday
  • Office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm; situational telework may be authorized per agency policy
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION
