Job Goal

The Plaquemines Parish School District is seeking a highly organized, motivated and professional student intern to serve as an Administrative Assistant Intern. This position provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience in administrative support, office management and professional communication within a school district environment. The intern will assist with various administrative tasks, work closely with staff and contribute to the efficiency of district operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a Plaquemines Parish School Board high school with the class designation of junior or senior.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all work-related matters.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic office equipment.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an office or administrative setting.
  • Basic knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace and other digital collaboration tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides general administrative support to district staff, including scheduling meetings, coordinating calendars and handling correspondence.
  • Assists in preparing documents, reports, and presentations for district meetings and events.
  • Helps manage and maintain filing systems, both digital and physical, ensuring documents are organized and easily accessible.
  • Assists in preparing and distributing internal and external communications, including memos, emails and announcements.
  • Supports the management of office supplies, including inventory tracking and ordering when necessary.
  • Handles incoming calls, emails and inquiries, directing them to the appropriate personnel or department.
  • Assists with data entry, maintaining accurate records for various district projects and initiatives.
  • Maintains confidentiality when handling student records and district information.
  • Helps coordinate and assist with district events, meetings and other professional functions.
  • Performs research or compile information for projects as requested by district leadership.
  • Collaborates with other departments as needed, assisting with cross-functional administrative tasks.
  • Provides general office support, including organizing materials, preparing agendas and taking meeting minutes as required.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities and administrative meetings as appropriate.
